VHS is the new Release by Hey Saturday Sun, Giulio Ronconi's solo project, keyboardist of the posthardcore band Don Boskov, as well as soundtrack composer.
His previously released album had already been a convincing episode of his musical carrier; Thanks to this previous experience, the artist was able to progress and evolve his musical style, reaching the new VHS. In this new work, Hey Saturday Sun chose to use a double edged expressive code, explicitly articulated in two different sections of the album: The first part, mainly composed digitally with a computer, exhibiting a close affinity with sounds taken from contemporary electronic music creating icy, cosmic atmospheres; during the second half, thanks to the prominint use of mainly analogic, vintage instruments, this work turns towards a synthpop direction, directly inspired both by the best hits of the 80s as much as by television jingles and videogame music. The unity of this work, with the exception of the variations in style, is guaranteed by the structure of each song, all organized following a combination of rhythmic tracks, synths and samples taken from YouTube or generally from the internet; these songs are born from a stratification of sound starting from a simple embrionic ideas: VHS demonstrates that its guiding principle is a kind of expressive urgency, not searching for the approval of the general public through explicit and easy referencing of other artists, but following his own musical objectives in a linear and coherent manner.
